School Building Programme – Our 3rd Initiatives
Mission Direct SAIO Primary School Building Renovation Project in partnership with Tebbs Second Chances
Background
SAIO Primary School was started in September 2008 by and an uneducated woman name Mrs Saio Dumbuya Sesay now a chief in the Regent Community.
As she did not have the opportunity to get formal education, she aimed at providing quality and affordable education for the children of Regent Community especially those who were under-privileged.
In April 2013 Tebbs Second Chances donated stationery packs and over 500 reading books to encourage the students to read, which lead the school to have their first library.
We continue to work with the school by means of our Sponsor a Child programme and some of our sponsored children have successfully moved to their chosen secondary schools, we currently sponsor the fees of seven children at the school.
Current Situation
In July 2017 Sierra Leone experienced one of the worst mudslide disasters ever recorded, the disaster took place about a mile away from SAIO school. Some of the children at the school lost parents or other close family members as a result of the disaster.
The disaster also caused the school and its current condition to be the focal point for the Ministry of Education Sierra Leone. They were ordered to renovate the building immediately or they will close them down.
This problem was bought to Tebbs Second Chances in December 2017, who at the time were building a working relationship with Mission Direct. Once told about the school Mission Direct was very happy to help make their dreams come true.
