MY EXPERIENCE – BY OSMAN EDWARD KARGBO
Tebbs Second Chances is a foundation based in the United Kingdom and founded by Miss Fiona Luke to help less privileged children in Sierra Leone. In the year 2013, Miss Luke added a new package to the stationery provided for the children, a scholarship programme. This package was meant for four less privileged children in two different schools. The year’s school fees were to be paid by Tebbs SC to two different schools. The process of selecting the deserving children was done by three members of Tebbs SC based in Sierra Leone.
Six children, three boys and three girls with almost the same story were selected in one school and another six in another school. We conducted an interview for these twelve kids in two days and some of the questions asked were:
- Name?
- Age?
- Class?
- Parents names?
- What are your parents doing for their living?
- How did you go to school?
- What did you do after school?
- Are you living with both your parents?
Based on this information we asked the school authorities to call their parents so that we could confirm our findings. After confirming our findings and verifying that the information given to us by the children and the parents were the same, we then completed our evaluation and made our decision. We were able to come up with four names, two boy and two girls and they were awarded a year’s scholarship by the founder of Tebbs SC Miss Fiona Luke. After being awarded the scholarships, the parents of these kids are so happy and thankful for the gesture in their lives and hope that the founder will continue to do more, so the lives of these kids will make history in our society.
